SCA and Heart Attack: Anyone Can Help

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) occurs when an electrical malfunction of the heart causes it to suddenly stop beating properly, ceasing blood flow to the victim’s brain, lungs, and other organs. Without immediate help, the chances of survival decrease with each passing minute. A victim’s best chance of survival depends on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and an automated external defibrillator (AED).

The symptoms and treatments for SCA and heart attack are different. Learning the facts and how you can be prepared to help in either situation can make the difference between life and death.
