It is a common misunderstanding that sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and a heart attack are the same thing. Knowing the differences between these diseases and how to take immediate action is essential to maximising a victim’s chances of survival. When either SCA or a heart attack occurs, it's imperative you call local emergency services. And if the victim has no pulse, immediately start CPR, and find an automated external defibrillator (AED).
