National CPR and AED Awareness Week

In recognition of CPR and AED Awareness Week, here are some recent CPR developments and important tips that can better prepare you if you witness a sudden cardiac arrest.CPRAED Awareness Month

New Directive Feedback Device Requirement

As of January 31, 2019, the AHA requires the use of an instrumented directive feedback device (IDFD) during CPR training courses. An IDFD measures compression rate, depth, hand position, recoil, and chest compression fraction, and it also provides real-time audio and visual feedback on these CPR essentials. An IDFD can be integrated into a manikin or serve as an accessory.

To meet the AHA’s requirement, at a minimum, the IDFD must measure and provide real-time audio and/or visual feedback on compression rate and depth. The feedback allows students to self-correct their skills in real time.

Cardiac Arrest Facts

  • More than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital each year, and there are about 10,000 cardiac arrests in the workplace each year in the U.S.
  • Studies show that nearly 45% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest victims survive when bystander CPR is administered.
  • Fewer than half of those who suffer cardiac arrest out of the hospital get help before first responders arrive.
Our goal is to help communities provide a safer environment. The more AEDs in your community, the better prepared communities will be in the event of SCA.

CPR Tips

  • Keep on-site AEDs accessible. Keeping an AED on site and in close proximity is highly recommended.
  • Administer CPR with a partner when possible. Delivering CPR is much more strenuous and requires a bit more physical “push” than you might think, and quite often the rescuer becomes winded and tired from the act itself. If there are other bystanders, work together to deliver CPR.
  • Know the proper compression rate and depth. Remember, the target rate for high-quality CPR is 100–120 compressions per minute, with a compression depth of 2–2.4 inches.

VR Hero Demo Best Practices

  • Download and get familiar with the VR App before your customer appointment. It’s helpful to know what
your customer is seeing when they wear the goggles so you can help guide them through the experience.VirtualReality_CallingAllDistributorReps
  • Prepare your goggles before your meeting. The ZOLL-branded goggles require some minor setup to ensure your phone is held correctly. Small rubber pads are provided to place in the phone holder to prevent buttons on the side of your phone from being pressed inadvertently.
  • You may need to remove your phone from the case in order for it to fit in the goggles. It may be a good idea to remove the phone case before your meeting.
  • Use your phone to demo VR so that you don’t run the risk of fumbling around with the VR Hero app if the WiFi happens to be spotty at the customer’s location.
  • If you’re demonstrating the mobile version of the VR app, remind the customer that the app uses headset and phone movement to measure compression depth.
